SafeShark has been selected as a technical partner for cybersecurity within the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) testing framework, following a competitive tender process.
The framework has been established to commission product testing across multiple categories, including cybersecurity, supporting both market surveillance and the development of future regulation. It plays a key role in underpinning enforcement of the Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Act 2022 (PSTI), which came into force in April 2024.
Through this appointment, SafeShark will support the UK Government’s efforts to ensure that connected consumer products meet required cybersecurity standards before entering the market. Non-compliant products may face enforcement action, including recalls and fines.
Alex Buchan, Director at SafeShark, said:
“This appointment reflects the growing importance of robust, independent cybersecurity testing in protecting consumers and supporting effective regulation. We are proud to support OPSS in building the evidence base that will shape the UK’s approach to product security, and to help manufacturers navigate increasingly complex compliance requirements.”
SafeShark provides specialist testing and compliance services across RED, CRA and PSTI, delivering end-to-end assurance against international standards including EN 18031 and EN 303 645.
